The Medical Practitioners Act, 2007 provides for the functions of the Postgraduate Medical and Dental Board to be subsumed into the Health Service Executive and the Medical Council on a date of transfer specified by the Minister for Health and Children in the Commencement Order for Part 12 of the Act. The Minister has now made the Order appointing January 1st 2009 as the transfer day and the Postgraduate Medical and Dental Board was dissolved on that date.

Welcome to the website for the Postgraduate Medical & Dental Board.

The functions of the Board, established under the Medical Practitioners Act, 1978, include the promotion and co-ordination of the development of postgraduate medical and dental education, the advising of the Minister for Health and Children on all matters relating to such development, and the provision of career guidance for doctors and dentists. The Board's Annual Budget for 2002 was €6.327m.

The Board directly employs four administrative staff and funds 46 sessional appointments of co-ordinators of postgraduate education, tutors of general practitioner continuing education programmes and course organisers for regional dental committees.
